When it comes to relationships, kissing really is the glue that binds. Kissing is one of the most powerful and intimate forms of non-verbal communication, shown to dramatically increase intimacy and improve relationship satisfaction.   And yet it’s one of the first things to go in long-term relationships. Want to improve your relationship? Kiss More.

Research shows that one in five married couples kiss less than once a month and that for 40% of them, that kiss lasts a mere five seconds. Not a great recipe for love.

Want to Improve Your Relationship? Kiss More

Why is Kissing so Important in Relationships?

Whilst numerous studies have shown that women place more importance on kissing than men, (using kissing as a form of mate selection and a way to initiate, maintain and evaluate the health of their relationship), kissing has been shown to help rekindle the love in both men and women.

Kissing Increases Connection and Attraction

While the stresses of everyday life can take their toll on your relationship, research shows that kissing increases connection and attraction. It gives us a boost of the cuddle hormone  oxytocin. Helping us to bond, and it reduces conflict and stress. Now that’s a good recipe for love.

Couples who kiss frequently are also more likely to experience additional benefits from increased touch, eye contact and intimacy.

Kissing Decreases Stress Levels and Increases Relationship Satisfaction

Researchers at Arizona State University found that couples asked to kiss more frequently over a period of six weeks reported higher perceived relationship satisfaction, and decreased cholesterol levels and stress.

The couples that upped their daily kissing intake also reported lower levels of conflict and arguing than the control group.

In another study by by researchers at Lafayette College, Those who kissed their partner for 15 minutes recorded lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those who talked or held hands for the same period.

Kissing Provides Insight into Your Relationship

Kissing can also provide important information about the health of your relationship.

So, If you’re coupled up and always on the receiving end of a closed mouth kiss or peck on the cheek  from your partner, with little of anything else it might be a sign of a lack of intimacy and underlying issues in your relationship.

Take the Time to Reconnect and Pucker up

It’s important to take the time to reconnect physically and emotionally with your partner, as lack of intimacy and affection is one of the main reasons that couples stray. So take the lead and pucker up with a five second passionate kiss each day. It will help you to destress, relax and feel more connected and in love.
